Last weekend David and I travelled to the Orlando area to attend the Florida Writers Association Royal Palm Literary Awards Banquet.
Royal Palms Literary Awards (RPLA) is a prestigious writing competition that recognizes extraordinary writing in 28+ genre categories for adults and 5 for youth. During the banquet excerpts of the winning books were read and it was fun to witness the extraordinary talent among these Florida writers. So many great books to read!
I am pleased to announce that my manuscript The Branches We Cherish: Twenty Five Truths About Open Adoption was the GOLD winner in the category of nonfiction educational/informational. I am most proud of my second and surprise award. I was 2nd runner up for the grand prize of unpublished book of the year competing across all 28 genre's. That is the medal I am wearing in this picture.
A special thanks to Marla McDaniel, Mollie Bork, Donna Overly, Rachel Glover and the rest of the of the Amelia Island writers group who mentored me and encouraged me to compete. They are the definition of Writers Helping Writers.
Stay tuned for more information about publication coming soon!
